Skin Cancer Checks

Aspire Medical Centre offer skin cancer clinics which include skin cancer risk assessments, testing and treatments.  We Utilise the latest equipment and ensure that your skin conditions are professionally assessed and treated by our specialist skin cancer doctors.

After a physical examination by the doctor if a skin cancer is suspected, a biopsy will be performed to confirm the doctor’s diagnosis.  A biopsy is a quick and simple procedure where part or all of the lesion is removed.  The biopsy will then be sent away to a lab to confirm the doctor’s diagnosis. These results will take approximately one week to receive.

Doctor will consider best treatment options based in your age and general health, the type and size of cancer, where it is on your body.  The treatment choice will also depend on whether the skin cancer has spread elsewhere in your body. The doctor will advise their patients of the most suitable treatment. We provide:

  • Skin Checks
  • Biopsies
  • Excisions

Skin Cancer Prevention

Australia has the highest rate of skin cancer in the world. Two in three Australians will develop skin cancer by the age of 70.  Skin cancers account for about 80% of all new cancers diagnosed each year in Australia.  More than 2,000 Australians die from skin cancer each year.  The good news is it can be prevented. Most skin cancers can be treated if they are detected early.

It is recommended that you have a professional skin check every 12 months.

Steps you can take to prevent skin cancer are:

  • Slip on clothes with sleeves and a collar
  • Slop on broad-spectrum, water resistant 30+ sunscreen 20 minutes before going into the sun
  • Slap on a broad brimmed hat
  • Seek shade when you are outdoors
  • Slide on sunglasses that meet the Australian standard
